Technical context
CompTIA Security+ is one of the most widely held entry-level cybersecurity certifications. It is vendor-neutral and validates the baseline skills expected from a first security role: recognising threats, applying controls, securing an architecture, reacting to an incident and understanding governance and risk. It suits junior security analysts, system and network administrators taking on security duties, help desk staff moving into security, and developers who want a solid grounding.
The exam has up to 90 questions in 90 minutes, mixing multiple-choice items and performance-based questions, with a pass mark of 750 on a scale of 100 to 900. Security operations carries the most weight (28 per cent), followed by threats, vulnerabilities and mitigations (22 per cent), program management and oversight (20 per cent), security architecture (18 per cent) and general concepts (12 per cent). What makes it hard is the scenario format: several controls could help, and you must choose the one that answers the exact problem described, at the right moment of the response. A successor version, SY0-801, is expected, but CompTIA has not yet published an official date and SY0-701 remains the current exam.
This practice quiz draws 40 questions per session from a bank of 200 weighted like the real exam. Most questions put you in a concrete situation, a phishing campaign at a bank, a vulnerable server at a hospital, a supplier asking for remote access, and ask what to do first or which control fits best. Explanations detail the reasoning and why the other options fall short. Repeat the quiz until you clear 85 per cent consistently before booking your attempt.
