ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level v4.0 Practice Exam

Prepare for the ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level with 40 questions drawn at random from a bank of 200, in 60 minutes, the same format as the official exam. The quiz covers the six chapters of the v4.0 syllabus: fundamentals of testing, testing throughout the software development lifecycle, static testing, test analysis and design, managing the test activities, and test tools. Two thirds of the questions are project scenarios, and every answer comes with a detailed explanation.

The bank of 200 questions ensures reliable and objective scores, with a random draw of 40 questions each session to prevent answer memorization.

Technical context

The Certified Tester Foundation Level, or CTFL, is the entry point of the ISTQB scheme, the international body that defines the reference syllabi for software testing. Version 4.0 of the syllabus brought the certification up to date with agile and DevOps practices, the shift-left approach and collaborative testing; version 4.0.1 only changed the logos and copyright, not the content. The CTFL is aimed at testers and QA engineers, but also at developers, business analysts and product owners who take part in quality work.

The exam has 40 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, closed book, with a pass mark of 65 per cent, that is 26 correct answers. Candidates who sit it in a language other than their own receive 25 per cent extra time. Most of the questions come from chapter 4, test analysis and design, and chapter 5, managing the test activities, where the syllabus expects you to apply techniques and not only recall them: build a decision table, count the boundary values, work out the transitions to cover or an estimate with the three-point formula.

This practice quiz reproduces that format exactly, with 40 questions in 60 minutes drawn from a bank of 200 weighted like the syllabus, heavier on chapters 4 and 5. Most questions start from a concrete project, a banking app to regression test, an insurance form with boundary values, a team estimating its next sprint. Explanations show the reasoning and, for the calculation questions, the working. Repeat the quiz until you clear 80 per cent consistently before booking your attempt.
