Delegation and Trust
Assesses the ability to entrust responsibilities to others, build trust, set the right level of oversight, and develop team members through delegation.
A delegation test sheds light on a skill many people believe they have mastered: genuinely handing responsibility to someone else. Delegating is more than distributing tasks. It means choosing the right person, framing a usable request, deciding how much control to let go and how to track progress, then responding to the outcome. It involves both how work is organised and the relationship with each team member, which is why it says so much about a management style.
This online test puts candidates through delegation at different stages: before handing over, along the way, after a disappointing deliverable or a success praised by senior leadership. It is designed for frontline managers who want to step back and examine their practice, for people aiming at a first management role, and for recruiters assessing whether a future leader can rely on their team.
What this test measures
- How an assignment is presented: expected outcome, latitude given and checkpoints along the way
- The criteria used to decide who takes on a demanding or sensitive task
- How follow-up is calibrated to the team member's experience and what is at stake
- The response to a deliverable below expectations or to someone stepping outside their remit
- How one approaches passing on expertise that only one person currently holds
Examples of situations in the test
- 1A bank branch manager who must hand over a sensitive file while her best adviser is already overloaded
- 2A site manager arranging how on-the-ground decisions will keep being made while he is on leave
- 3A technical director entrusting a topic to an engineer who knows the field better than he does
- 4A remote team manager whose team member asks for sign-off on every minor decision
About this test
This test uses situational judgement tests (SJT), true/false questions and prioritisation exercises to assess your real behaviours. Each answer is weighted: there is no obvious "wrong" answer.
How to read your result
High result
A high score describes someone who hands over real responsibility, adjusts their follow-up to each situation and uses delegation to help their team grow.
Result to develop
A score with room to grow suggests a tendency to hold on to tasks or, conversely, to hand them over without enough structure. The report identifies the stages of delegation that cause the most difficulty and suggests practical levers for improvement.
Roles where this skill is decisive
- Frontline manager
- Team leader
- Branch manager

Frequently asked questions
What does this delegation test reveal?
It shows how you handle each phase of delegation: preparation, choosing the person, follow-up along the way and your response to the result. The situations also cover less common cases, such as delegating remotely, during a crisis or within a multicultural team.
How is it different from a general management test?
A management test covers broad ground: vision, team leadership, performance management, communication. This one zooms in on a specific and often underestimated act: handing over responsibility, then accepting how the other person carries it out. It can complement the other tests in the Leadership family.
Why include it when hiring a manager?
In interviews, most candidates say they know how to delegate. The test goes beyond that claim by observing the choices made in situations that are comparable for everyone. The AI-generated report then helps the recruiter prepare interview questions on the points worth exploring further.
How much time should I allow?
Allow 35 minutes for 20 questions drawn at random from a larger bank, mixing scenarios, true/false statements and ranking exercises. You need to sign in to start. Options are weighted and none stands out as obvious. The final report presents strengths, areas for development and recommendations.
