Contexte technique
The Certified Tester Foundation Level, or CTFL, is the entry point of the ISTQB scheme, the international body that defines the reference syllabi for software testing. Version 4.0 of the syllabus brought the certification up to date with agile and DevOps practices, the shift-left approach and collaborative testing; version 4.0.1 only changed the logos and copyright, not the content. The CTFL is aimed at testers and QA engineers, but also at developers, business analysts and product owners who take part in quality work.
The exam has 40 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, closed book, with a pass mark of 65 per cent, that is 26 correct answers. Candidates who sit it in a language other than their own receive 25 per cent extra time. Most of the questions come from chapter 4, test analysis and design, and chapter 5, managing the test activities, where the syllabus expects you to apply techniques and not only recall them: build a decision table, count the boundary values, work out the transitions to cover or an estimate with the three-point formula.
